About Micromex: Nearshore Manufacturing Since 1988
Micromex is a family-owned contract manufacturer with production in Imuris, Sonora and headquarters in Tucson, Arizona. Since 1988 we’ve built wire harnesses, electrical assemblies, transformers and finished goods for brands that need the cost structure of offshore manufacturing without the ocean between them and their product. We are IMMEX-certified, ISO 9001 certified, and close enough to the border that product built on our floor this morning can cross into the United States the same day.
What to Expect From a Nearshore Contract Manufacturer
Most brands come to us carrying the same problem: labor costs that keep climbing at home, or an overseas supplier whose price looked good until the freight, the lead times and the quality escapes were counted. Nearshore contract manufacturing solves both. You get skilled labor at a rate that competes with Asia, and you get it a few hours from your US distribution — not a few weeks.
What makes that work is not geography alone. It’s a manufacturing partner who can take a product from prints and a bill of materials to a packaged, inspected, border-ready finished good. That’s what we’ve done for more than three decades, across electrical assemblies, wire harnesses, transformers, specialty packaging and full remanufacturing programs. Our clients range from global consumer brands to specialized industrial manufacturers, and the reason they stay is consistency: the same build, the same quality standard, the same delivery, run after run.
From a 1,000 Sq Ft Shop in Sonora to a Cross-Border Manufacturing Operation
Micromex was founded in 1988 by Juan Garcin, who came from Guadalajara to Tucson looking for a way to build something of his own]. The first facility was a 1,000 square foot factory. The work was hand assembly, the customer list was short, and the reputation was built one order at a time.
Nearly four decades later, that reputation is the business. Over the years we have built out and even managed more than 300,000 square feet of manufacturing and distribution space across Mexico and the United States, staffed by 300+ employees at peak, running programs for brands that could have chosen a supplier anywhere in the world. Today we operate a focused cross-border footprint — a large-scale production facility in Imuris, Sonora and corporate headquarters in Tucson, Arizona — built deliberately around the capabilities our clients actually buy.
The company is still family-run. Juan Garcin remains CEO. His son Giovanni runs the business day to day as President — When you call Micromex, you are talking to the people whose name is on the building.
Our Facilities: Imuris, Sonora and Tucson, Arizona
Imuris, Sonora — Manufacturing. Our 80,000 square foot production facility in Imuris is where the building happens: wire harness assembly, electrical and mechanical sub-assembly, transformer winding, specialty packaging, and remanufacturing and refurbishment lines. Imuris sits roughly 40 miles south of the Nogales port of entry, which means finished goods move from our floor across the border and into US distribution in a matter of hours — not the weeks an ocean container takes.
Tucson, Arizona — Headquarters. Our US headquarters handles program management, engineering support, quality, customer service and cross-border logistics coordination. Your point of contact is in Arizona, on your time zone, working in English, and able to be at the plant the same day if a program needs eyes on it. That combination — US-based management, Mexico-based production — is the practical reason nearshoring works for brands who’ve been burned by distance before.

Manufacturing in Mexico is straightforward when your partner holds the right certifications, and expensive when they don’t. Micromex has held IMMEX certification since 2006, which allows us to import raw materials and components into Mexico for manufacturing and return the finished goods without the duty burden that would otherwise erase your savings. Under USMCA, qualifying product moves across the border on preferential terms — and we handle the classification and documentation so that it does.
On quality, we have been ISO 9001 certified for more than 20 years — currently to the ISO 9001:2015 standard — and our builds carry UL and ETL certification where the application requires it. For our clients that means documented process control, traceability and inspection as a matter of routine rather than a matter of request..
What We Build
Wire harnesses and cable assemblies — custom harnesses built to print, from low-volume prototypes to full production runs.
Electrical assemblies and sub-assemblies — panel builds, mechanical and electromechanical assembly, and turnkey sub-assemblies that drop straight into your line.
Transformers — winding and assembly for specialized power applications.
Specialty packaging — retail-ready packaging, kitting and repackaging, including programs that require rework at scale under tight deadlines.
Remanufacturing and reverse logistics — returned and refurbished product processed, tested, repackaged and returned to sale. We built this capability into a circular-economy program for retailers who were writing returns off as a loss.
